Playing with the blocks is so much fun. They have the pegs on the back so you can slide them onto the board and they stay there even when it's fully upright. So you could make a design and leave it out as artwork. I might do this when my nephew isn't around because the blocks are the right size, about the size of a large tabletop picture frame. It's also a nice mix of colors. They aren't quite pastel but they aren't super loud and garish. The blocks and board were all smooth and well sanded. I would dock half a star or a quarter star if I could because one block, the top yellow block on the right, was missing a bit of paint on the edge, probably a manufacturer's defect. However, the other blocks looked perfect. It looks very durable, like it would last a lifetime, so I think it's worth the current price. Because it's easy to set up and play with, I think the listed age range of 3 to 6 years is appropriate, but I think kids and adults older than 6 would enjoy playing with this too. It might be a little bit of a challenge for a 3 year old to slide the pegs on the back of the blocks into the grooves, but it would be good for them to stretch and develop their motor skills. I'm really glad I got this.
Luckily, I tested it out before playing with any of my nieces or nephews, so I was able to superglue everything back together.
Aside from the loose pegs, I do think the rest of it is well constructed, and now that I have it all glued, it is a fun game we actually play with.
I love that it comes with challenge cards for pattern play and open-ended building options and is the perfect size for little hands but large enough that the pieces can't easily be swallowed so it should be relatively safe. It’s giving classic puzzle, creative brain boost, and quiet-time win all in one box. Perfect for kids who like to build, tinker, and figure things out!
The wooden pieces feel sturdy enough that I'm not worried about them breaking easily, which is a huge plus. I'll try to come back and update this should I experience any unexpected issues. But so far, I love this thing, and there are so many interesting shapes you can make with the different pieces. It really makes you have to plan ahead, think critically, and think outside the box, so to speak.
