The battery seems to last quite a long time. We normally turn it on the low setting at around 8pm and it will easily last all the way to morning.
The light that it emits is more than sufficient as a night light. There are 2 settings. The first is a 20 minute timer, so the light will automatically turn off after 20 minutes, and the second setting will keep it on permanently.
The only real issue I have is that there's no indication that it is charging or the charging has completed. When you first plug it in, it flashes twice to indicate that charging has started and it will flash again once it is finished. But if you miss those flashes then it's hard to really tell what the status is. A little light that stays solid when full would have been better.
